There are plenty of roles you can fill within out organization as a parent.  Your high school kids might act too cool for you, but they're not and they know it.  They like having you around and that you care.  And we need your help!  The best way to do so is to volunteer for one of our standing committees.  Each committee is responsible for just one facet of what the organization does.

To join a standing committee, please e-mail the Recording Secretary, Diana Arfine.

1. Budget Committee - Chairwoman:  Jane Lin.

The duties of the budget committee are to propose all estimated expenditures and recommend ways and means of raising the funds necessary to meeting said expenditures.  For this first year, it is a work in progress.  The committee will work with reports from the Treasurer to determine what our revenues and expenses will be.  At the end of the year, actual revenue and expenses will be compared with the budgeted ones.  We will then consider our goals for next year and estimate their costs, as well as what revenues we will bring in, and use this year's actual numbers to help project a budget for next year.

2. By-Laws Committee - Co-Chairs:  Maureen Chakraborty; Mac

The duty of the By-Laws Committee is to examine the rules by which the organization operates and propose revisions to the bylaws as necessary.  The bylaws can be revised at anytime, but it is important that precedents set or practices that develop outside of the bylaws be amended and revised into the current By-Laws.  The committee will be co-chaired by the President and the Instrumental Director.

3. Nominating Committee - Vacant

The duty of the Nominating Committee is to present a slate of Officers at the Annual Meeting.  The nominating committee would be responsible for securing this slate with either incumbents who desire to serve or known vacancies that will manifest at the expiration of the current terms.  It is this committee's responsibility to make sure the Executive Committee is always staffed.  This committee may also help in the assistance of recruiting needed volunteers for other committees.  A committee of 3 people is sufficient.

4. Banquet Committee - Co-Chairs:  Dawn Auslander; Liz Ellis

The duty of the banquet committee is to plan and organize the annual Banquet(s).  The Banquet Committee may need to coordinate with the chairpersons of the Band Committee and Orchestra Committee to determine certain logistics and traditions.  A committee of 6 people is sufficient.

5. Fundraising Committee - Co-Chairs:  Diana Arfine/Maureen Chakraborty

The biggest task of this committee is to plan the annual Funkraiser event.   This event requires many different elements, from fundraising, to budgeting, to facilities use, marketing, etc.  This committee would work with other standing committees in order to accomplish its objectives.  10-12 people is sufficient.

6. Band Committee and Orchestra Committee

Band Chair:  Dawn Auslander   Orchestra Chair:  Julia Bruce
